Endodontics | Root Canal Therapy

The Endodontists at Advanced Dentistry South Florida utilize state-of-the-art technology and years of experience to help give patients a comfortable experience while undergoing endodontic treatment. Our Endodontists believe in the treatment of our patient’s natural teeth while providing the least amount of pain and discomfort as possible, along with the least amount of downtime for each patient.

While there are times that a patient’s tooth may not be salvageable, it is very important to our doctors that the attempt is made to do so, even for the most injured or decayed tooth.

What is Endodontics?

Endodontics is the dental specialty that concentrates on the nerves of the teeth. Endodontists specialize in the treatment of the roots and pulp of the tooth. The word Endodontic is derived from two words one being endo, which means inside, and one being odont, which means tooth. One of the most common Endodontic procedures is a root canal. During the root canal procedure, your Endodontist will remove the infected nerve before it has a chance to become an abscess. If left untreated, the abscess can become a much bigger problem and cause bone loss.

What is a Root Canal Treatment?

An anesthetic will be used by your endodontic specialist before the root canal treatment begins. This is done to help minimize any pain or discomfort the patient may feel. There are also options for IV sedation. Your endodontist will speak with you about which option is best before proceeding. The Endodontist will then proceed to remove any decay that has set in and then treat the root canal by disinfecting it. After the decay is taken care of, your doctor will then place a dental crown over the tooth. The dental crown will act as your normal tooth, bringing back the normal look, appearance and functionality nature intended. Your doctor will then go over proper maintenance so that you can help ensure many more years of functionality with your newly treated tooth.
