Nitrous Oxide Sedation in Delray Beach, FL
If you suffer from dental anxiety and/or fear of the dentist, you have options to make your dental visit more comfortable and stress-free. If you suffer from a mild form of dental anxiety, Nitrous Oxide may be the right option when you visit us at Advanced Dentistry South Florida.
What is nitrous oxide sedation?
This form of sedation is also known as laughing gas. This is a form of conscious inhalation sedation (administered through the nose) that gives the patient an overall sense of relaxation and often a sense of euphoria as well. This procedure is available for adults and children as well.
What are the benefits of nitrous oxide sedation?
As stated previously, it is a great option for children and adults who become anxious while visiting the dentist. Other benefits include the following:
- Little or no recovery time from inhallation
- Little to no side effects (no “hangover”)
- A safe and non-addictive option
- It works very quickly, reaching the brain within 20 seconds
- Shown to eliminate or minimize gagging in patients
Does nitrous oxide sedation hurt?
We have personally never had a patient state that he/she was in pain at any point during the administration of nitrous oxide. The following effects have been known to happen to dental patients while using nitrous oxide:
- A feeling of euphoria or “well-being”
- Heaviness in legs and arms
- Comfortable, warm sensations throughout the body
- Tingling sensations near the beginning stages of administering nitrous oxide
While the use of nitrous oxide does not hurt, if at any time you feel uncomfortable, or you are experiencing symptoms that are unpleasant, alert your dentist immediately so that he or she can adjust the levels.
